Test images are an invaluable asset in every colourist’s toolbox. Test images help you to stress test and validate LUTs and looks.

Stress Test Looks and LUTs

How good are the LUTs you just bought? Will they break your footage? Is your look bullet-proof? Test images are the crash test dummies of colour grading and look development. Especially in today’s landscape where everyone and their dog sells LUTs, it’s important to separate the wheat from the chaff.
My test images cover all possible colours and also the most extreme ones, too, so you can see exactly what’s going on.

What you will get

You will get a folder with eight of my test images plus my most recent halation test image.
The files are:

  • 16-Bit
  • Uncompressed
  • RGB
  • tiff files

How to use

For all applications I tested, you can just import the tiff files and they get interpreted as intended. This includes DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Affinity Photo, Photoshop, etc.

The only exception is Final Cut Pro where you need to set the colour space override to “Rec.709” in the inspector.
